Alcaucin

ALCAUÍN is a typical white village at the foot of the Sierra Tejeda, 54 km from the city of Malaga. It includes the "Boquete de Zafarraya," an important mountain pass in the mountainous region of Axarquía. There is almost no through traffic, giving Alcaucín a distinct traditional charm with its narrow streets, whitewashed houses, and traditional Andalusian architecture.

There is a restored Moorish fountain with beautiful tilework. Near the village, you can find the remains of the Zalía castle from Phoenician times. It is a popular destination for nature and outdoor activity enthusiasts, such as hiking, cycling, and bird-watching, due to its proximity to various natural parks. The Alcázar nature reserve and the sources of Las Majadas are located in the territory of Alcaucín.

For food enthusiasts, there are some cozy restaurants with typical Spanish specialties in Alcaucín. On October 31, Alcaucín celebrates the chestnut festival, and in the first week of August, there is the feria.

In a lower part of Alcaucín is Puente Don Manuel. Here, there are supermarkets, a renowned butcher shop and bakery, shops, and some bars where the foreign residents of Alcaucín like to meet each other.
