Holy Week, or Semana Santa, is the most significant period of the year throughout Spain. During Semana Santa, each village and city has its own way of commemorating the suffering of Christ. There are masses and processions, but there's also room for a festive atmosphere.

Semana Santa in Málaga is undoubtedly the most spectacular event to experience during this period. Impressive religious processions with enormous thrones depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ leave an indelible impression on all attendees. The thrones are carried by hundreds of bearers who are performing penance. Additionally, there's drumming, music, and the typical Nazarenos with their pointed hoods accompanying the processions.
